VISIT TO NICHOLSON’S ORGAN WORKS AND NEWS OF THREE PIPES.
During 2013, the Gloucester Organists’ Association enjoyed a visit to Nicholson’s Organ Works in Malvern. After a tour of the factory, we were given a fascinating and very entertaining talk and demonstration of pipe voicing by Guy Russell. Three identical metal pipes hadthem, been made especially for our visit and Guy voiced one as a Diapason, one as a Flute and the third as a string. At the end of our visit, the pipes were given to the GOA. The speaking length of the pipes is one foot which means that they play a Treble C. They are beautifully made of spotted metal. The pipes were on show during several meetings and sealed bids for their purchase were invited. These bids were opened at the AGM.
Past Chairman of the GOA Terry Hoyle won the pipes.
